the lords of altamont
Named after one of the most notorious concert events ever, The Lords of Altamont rev up a fast & furious flurry of retro biker rock that makes you want to break the speed limit every time!
MotorCycho are privileged and honoured to present this exclusive interview:
[MCho] Davie Allan has a big sickle influence in
his tunes yet has no interest in sickles whatsoever, what about The Lords?
[Lords] All of the lords grew up around bikes. We
always loved biker culture, the movies are the best! It’s pretty obvious that
the rest of world was interested at one time, since there are a million bikers
and tons of movies. It just seems like the image has gone a little soft. Credit
card bikers! Some bands have gone for the image but never full on ( excluding
the Von Zippers their bad ass).
[MCho] The Von Zippers and The Forbidden Dimension
(rip) have an association with the Satans Stool Pidgeons Motorcycle Club, do
the Lords have any affiliations???
[Lords] We aren’t affiliated with any clubs. It's
pretty serious out here at the moment. One could easily get caught in the
crossfire. You could get hurt wearing colors in public. Bikers usually get the
fact that we are a band, but they are very interested when they see six guys (the
lords) walking around in full colors. You just need to respectful that you are
in the presents of a real bike club. We have had several clubs coming out to
shows. All have been really great to us. They are usually interested that we
are into bikes.
[MCho] why the sickle influence in your tunage?
[Lords] Always wanted to do this. I tried in the Bomboras
toward the end, but never got close enough. Fuzztones even touch a little bit,
but on a smaller level.
[MCho] favorite biker movies?
[Lords] Wild Angels, Hells Angels on Wheels, The
wild one, Easy Rider of course.
[MCho] any cool bike stories? ever played for an
Angel Convention or something like that?
[Lords] Nothing too exciting yet! No Angel
conventions. We are still working on the big conventions, but we also want get
local rock n rollers interested into bike culture with-out billet bikes! It’s
pretty funny, people often think we are a religious club because of the name.
We are pretty heathenistic...
[MCho] tell us about your sickles!
[Lords] I have a chopped 70 bonneville with a 750
bonnie motor. Heavy (bass) has a 62 pan chopper, modded by Chica and a bunch of
other guys. Stretched and de-chromed (NO BILLET). Stiggs (guitar) has a 70
Honda. Sicko (drums) is between bikes. Sonic (guitar) has a 50’s Benelli,
(stock) Italian bike. I’m lookin for a tiger 500 for my wife! We’ve got cars
too. Stiggs has got a restored 62 T-bird, and I’ve got a 67 Le Mans
(convertible).
[MCho] how come the CD doesn't really have any
sickle songs on it??
[Lords] Well, we do. I can't write too well. 'Too old
to die', 'Born to lose', are definitely in the influence. The new single has
'live fast die young'. I would say more of the life style as opposed to the
bikes themselves. Next record will have more influence. Some of those songs I
wrote for the Bomboras and never used due to break up! We wrote 'land of the
one percenters', and 'planet of the ape hangers' in the Bomboras. We got a
little rock/garage happy on this album after seven years of pretty much one
thing. THERE WILL BE MORE!
[MCho] give me your poop on the Iron Cross/Maltese Cross (I get people all the
time thinking its either a swastika or a nazi emblem)?
[Lords] Well it depends on who you are trying to
piss off! I guess if you are Italian, Maltese Cross will apply! Swastika looks much different, as well as
an 1914 cross and a 1940’s cross. I use to love it for shock value. Now basically
pointless! Iron Cross: honor. Maltese: Symbol of protection. L.A.: Fashion,
crap.
[MCho] Ever cruise around with your 'Lords' colours flyin'?
[Lords]Jackets off while riding. NO COLORS
[MCho] talk abit about your newest single
[Lords] New single on vinyl only. Released on Sonic
fever/FUCT. Very cool label, Erik Brunetti is his name!
Songs are: 'Time has come today' (Chambers
Bros.) and '4.95' (original), plus bonus song 'Project Blue' (Banshees).
[MCho] you mentioned something about your uncle having a sickle in some old chopper mag. tell me more!
[Lords] It was my pops! In the Ed Roth Chopper mag. I'll have to dig it up.
[MCho] anything you wanna say to all them sickle
dawgs reading this stinkrag?
[Lords] Looking for like minded bands that want to
tour/rock out of town with the lords. Email us off the web site.
